Fire destroyed an apartment and heavily damaged the two adjacent units in Geneseo on Saturday. Officials believe an overheated drier caused the blaze.
Geneseo Fire Chief Andrew Chanler says they were called to the Highlands Apartments on Meadow Drive at 11:35 Saturday morning. The assistant chief who arrived within one minute of the call reported flames shooting from one of the units. Firefighters had it contained within 30 minutes, but the fire had spread to the apartments on either side, and other units suffered smoke and water damage.
Firefighters from Lakeville and York assisted at the scene. The Red Cross is helping the displaced tenants. Nobody was hurt.
