Numbers released Monday by Governor Andrew Cuomo say Rochester and the Finger Lakes region have one of the state’s highest COVID-19 positivity rates, topping eight percent.
The region also has the highest percentage of its population hospitalized for the coronavirus, at 0.06 percent.
Put those together, and the governor says the region is at risk of a full lockdown if those numbers can’t be improved. NO changes were made to the area’s orange and yellow zones so far.
Salons, barber shops and gyms across the region’s orange zone reopened on Monday, but the governor warned they could be shut right back down again in a few weeks if the numbers don’t turn around. To keep that from happening, the state is increasing the number of hospital beds it has available. It’s also urging people not to meet in small home gatherings. They believe three-fourths of all new COVID cases are being spread that way.
