FEMA released its disaster declaration today (Tue) for the Lake Ontario shoreline that was flooded out by rising lake levels in the spring. But officials in Monroe and Cayuga counties were shocked to find they’d been left off the list.
The declaration means federal funding is available to the state and local governments devastated by flooding and erosion along Lake Ontario. It covers from Jefferson to Niagara Counties…but skips over Monroe and Cayuga although they were also hard-hit.
Assemblyman Peter Lawrence of Greece says he’s shocked to find Monroe County and Greece left off the list. He says voters in his district were decimated by the flooding and suffered millions in property damage.
Greece Supervisor Bill Reilich says he immediately called the governor’s office and found them equally puzzled. He says they’re pressuring the federal authorities to get Monroe and Cayuga counties back on the list.
Assemblyman Lawrence says he’s doing the same and also pressuring local members of Congress including Chris Collins and Louise Slaughter.
