The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is warning women not to leave their purses in plain view inside their cars, even if they’re just running into a store for a quick stop.

They’re investigating at least five car break-ins targeting women who left their purses on the seat while they went into a daycare center or gym. Deputies say the thieves are known as the Felony Lane Gang. They target communities near the Thruway, smash car windows, grab the purses and make their getaway down the Thruway.

Later, they use any IDs they find and attempt to withdraw the victim’s money from the bank.
