Papers filed in Federal Court in Syracuse allege that Charlie Tan was a drug dealer while he was a student at Cornell University. Federal prosecutors say that makes his request for a lesser sentence on a federal weapon charge “unreasonable.”

The court documents were filed as part of his pre-sentencing report. The eight-page brief says Tan sold marijuana and psychedelic drugs at Cornell. The papers were filed in response to a request filed last week by Tan’s defense team, asking that he be sentenced to no more than five years in prison.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa Fletcher writes that forensic investigators were able to unlock Charlie and Jean Tan’s cellphones. The phone records allegedly show Tan had a marijuana business, selling to other students at $200 an ounce and shipping five pounds of the drug in from California. He’s also accused of selling psychedelic mushrooms. This took place during 2015.

And Fletcher writes that Tan still has not admitted to killing his father, Jim Tan, with the shotgun he illegally purchased.

Tan is due to be sentenced on November 19th.
