The Federal Bureau of Prisons says one of its officers recently helped alert Rochester police to an attempt to murder a high school student.
The bureau says Senior Officer Ryan Hays was monitoring phone calls made by an inmate at the Allenwood Correctional Facility in central Pennsylvania. Two calls included talk about a possible hit on a student at the Jefferson High School Campus. The officer immediately alerted his supervisor, who immediately called the RPD and provided details of the plot.
Within two hours, Rochester Police had locked down the school and recovered a gun that had been placed in a dumpster on the school grounds. At the time, police said only that they were alerted by an “out of state call.” No arrest has been made in connection with the handgun so far.
In confirming the incident, the Bureau of Prisons says Officer Hays saved at least one life and possibly more by avoiding a violent incident on school grounds
