The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has denied a request by opponents of a massive Finger Lakes gas storage project for a re-hearing.
The group Gas Free Seneca is seeking to halt Crestwood Energy’s project to convert salt caverns beneath Seneca Lake into a massive natural gas and propane storage facility. Crestwood has federal approval and is now waiting on the State Department of Environmental Conservation to sign off before it can begin construction.
The caverns are left from years of pumping out salt brine and processing it into bagged salt. The opponents don’t believe the gas won’t leak and pose an environmental hazard.
