The City of Rochester’s top lawyer says there’s a “fatal flaw” with the anti-casino petition submitted to City Hall yesterday by the anti-casino organization “A Better Rochester.”
The group says it’s collected more than 12,000 signatures on a petition calling for a citywide referendum against a downtown Rochester casino.
The group includes the developers of the del Lago resort casino in Seneca County and horse racing interests opposed to another casino in the region.
Rochester Deputy Counsel Tim Curtin says the wording of the petition would prevent it being adopted, but he doesn’t specify.
Mayor Lovely Warren’s office says the group should put its dollars behind a workable proposal for Midtown Parcel Five that could help revitalize downtown.
