Two people are dead and a child remains critically injured after they were hit by a car in Brighton.

Brighton police say the car was southbound on Edgewood Avenue when it swerved off the road and hit a utility pole, then struck the three people on the sidewalk between Westfall Road and Route 590. Striking the pole cut power to about 850 RG&E customers.

Chief Dave Catholdi said an adult was killed by the impact and the two children were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where a nine-year-old child later died. A two-year-old remains in critical condition.

The driver stopped and is cooperating with police. She was identified as Ninoshka Vazquez. She was released after speaking with investigators. She had a child as a passenger when the crash took place.

No names of the victims have been released yet.
