The Rochester Fire Department’s Arson Task Force has charged a 26-year-old Fairport man with arson and criminal mischief for allegedly torching a car on Hudson Avenue.

A department statement says Hocine Taouzinet was charged after police and firefighters were called to 334 Hudson Avenue about 2:15 Saturday morning for a report of a man setting a car on fire. They found a Chevy Impala engulfed in flames. Nobody was hurt but the car was destroyed.

Taouzinet fled the scene, but was arrested when he returned about two hours later. Police say he got into a violent argument with other people, and responded by smashing the car’s windows and setting it on fire.

He’s currently in jail waiting on arraignment.
