A Facebook post from a Dansville police officer went viral on social media, after the officer fired back at a critical post from a member of the public.
A woman posted on the department’s page after her aunt was arrested. It was an angry blast, accusing the department of slandering her family member and concluding by calling them “fake cops.”
An officer responded by saying “we know that your Obama phone does not have spell check or grammar check,” then goes on to say she get someone with an education to read her “non sense posts” before she posts them. He signed it “the not so scary police.”
The woman told 13 WHAM she pays for her own phone and this was a slam against low income people.
Dansville’s Police Chief has released a statement saying most people thought the response was appropriate, but it’s not the department’s place to make a foolish response to a foolish comment. He also says there will be more training about what’s appropriate on social media.
The mayor of Dansville has issued his own statement, saying he’s asked for a report from the chief and will hold any other comments until he’s read it.
