Repairs to an Erie Canal culvert in Orleans County will force the New York State Canal Corporation to be closed and emptied later this month.
The New York State Canal Corporation says it will drain the section of the canal in Western Monroe and Orleans Counties while repairs are made near the Hulberto Lift Bridge in the Town of Murray. It starts June 27th and closes the canal from Brockport to Middleport. The work will take several weeks.
Canal authorities say boaters need to have their craft out of that section by Sunday, June 26th.
The Canal Corporation also says repairs will close the Route 259 lift bridge over the canal in Spencerport at the end of the month. Repairs are being made June 28th and 29th. The bridge will be locked in the down position during the repair work.
