While a homicide investigation was going on up the street Friday night, an apparently unrelated fire was happening a short distance away at 456 Emerson Street. Firefighters had to detour on their way to the burning house because police had the homicide scene blocked off.

A statement from the Rochester Fire Department says they arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a two-and-a-half story house. A second alarm was called and crews worked to keep the fire from spreading to the neighboring homes. They had the fire under control in under two hours. The house was wrecked but nobody was injured.

The occupants escaped and are being helped by the Red Cross.
