The peak of flu season is coming in February and March, but Monroe County already has 97 confirmed cases of influenza as of this week. That’s more than six times the 14 cases we had at the same time last year.
The Monroe County Health Department says now is the time to get a flu shot. Even if you’ve heard that it’s not as effective against the strain that’s actually going around this year, doctors say it will make the symptoms less severe if you do catch the flu.
Health care workers who haven’t been vaccinated are now being required to wear surgical gloves and masks with patients.
The State Health Department says flu cases have turned up in every county in New York and in New York City.
