canandaigua-kershaw-parkThe continuing drought has forced the City of Canandaigua to impose water use restrictions because of low water levels in Canandaigua Lake.

Canandaigua’s Director of Public Works, James Sprague, says irrigation, washing cars at home and filling swimming pools is prohibited for now. Everyone else on the Canandaigua water system is being asked to think about water use and conserve as much as they can.

Sprague says many small actions by the 39,000 people on the water system will add up.

Canandaigua limits water use when the lake level drops to a foot below normal for the season. They’re checking the water level daily and monitoring changes.

Canandaigua Lake water serves most of Ontario County’s towns and villages as well as the city. It also supplies the Wayne County Water Authority.
