The latest report from the government Drought Monitor shows dry conditions are deepening across Upstate New York.
The report says wells in Genesee County were going dry or reporting reduced water levels over the last week. It shows a wide belt of land along the Thruway from the Syracuse to the Buffalo areas now in “extreme drought,” with all the rest of the Rochester-area counties in “severe drought.”
The latest report doesn’t yet include this week’s rain across the Rochester region. It does say much of the Northeastern United States got some “beneficial rain,” enough to keep things from getting worse, but most of that rain missed Western New York.
