The driver of a boat that crashed yesterday evening on Lake Ontario in Hamlin has been charged with boating while intoxicated.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Matthew Tripi of Hamlin was ticketed after the boat with four people aboard crashed into a pier at the Sandy Creek Channel. Deputies say one person was thrown into the water by the impact, and the rest jumped overboard when the boat started to sink. All of them scrambled onto the rocks lining the pier and were rescued by the Hamlin Fire Department and deputies.

Three people were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital to be checked out with minor injuries.
