A Gates police car was wrecked last night when a drunken driver pulled out from a parking lot right in the officer’s path.
The department says the patrol car was heading north on Elmgrove Road when the other driver pulled out from the Panorama Bar parking lot and was hit broadside. There were no injuries but heavy damage to both cars.
Fifty-nine-year-old Leonard Dionese of Chili was charged with DWI and failing to yield. His blood alcohol content tested at twice the legal limit.
Gates Police say they average about one crash a year between a police car and a drunken driver.
