The living legend of Rochester soccer will make his home debut against Detroit.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Lancers are home this weekend at the IDE Family Field at the Dome Arena. Doors open at 5:30 and gates at 6 pm for all ticket and sponsor voucher holders, with the game kickoff at 7 pm.
Doug Miller, who is the President of Soccer Operations and Head Coach of the Lancers, makes his indoor home debut as a player, in a must-win game against the Detroit Waza Flo (7-4) Friday night. The Lancers (6-4) need to win in order to advance into the playoffs. Miller did score one goal against the Waza Flo earlier in the season in an away match.
Miller’s last return to play at the Lancers home field was last summer with the Lancers outdoor NPSL team. He scored within seconds of entering the game.
Miller has been coaching for over 25 years, and has been coaching Rochester’s youth since 1996. In 2014, Doug coached the Indoor Rochester Lancers, and he has coached the NPSL outdoor Lancers the past 2 summer seasons.
Miller has played for many teams across the United States, but became a Rochester legend playing for the Rochester Rhinos from 1996 to 1999, he still holds the record for the Rhinos all-time leader in goals and points. Miller is also the Lancers all-time leading scorer.
“I have waited patiently all season to play home at the New Dome Arena,” Miller said. “I love the energy of this place, and playing with some of the same guys I played with back in 2011 is a dream come true for my family and I.”
The Lancers close out the regular season Saturday night against the Muskegon Risers.
