New York State DOT plans for repaving Empire Boulevard between Irondequoit and Webster next year drew positive reviews Wednesday evening at an open house for area residents and business owners.
The $3.35 million, 3.5 mile-long project will resurface the highway from Helendale Road in Irondequoit to Gravel Road in Webster. A center turn lane will be added to serve businesses between Plank Road and Baytowne Plaza. And a left turn lane will be added at Empire Boulevard and Plank Road.
Area residents said drivers rushing to make the light reach the top of a hill to find themselves suddenly confronted with a line of cars trying to turn left, and have to slam on their brakes. Several serious crashes have taken place there.
