The New York State Health Department says in a statement that it is investigating the COVID vaccination program at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
An internal email made public last week by WXXI indicated that university donors could be vaccinated at a special clinic, jumping ahead of other prioritized groups. The U of R says the clinic never happened, but in a statement of its own says that 26 non-employees did get invitations to a clinic meant for URMC employees. All were eligible to receive the vaccine, but URMC says they should not have received preferential treatment. The university has apologized.
the DOH says the university is retraining its staff, and it appears no one received the vaccine who was not eligible for it by age or underlying medical condition.
