New York’s Department of Motor Vehicles says 102 people, 50 of them in the Rochester area, have been arrested on charges of using a fake Puerto Rico drivers license or driver abstract to obtain a New York license.

DMV says the arrests are the result of an investigation lasting several months. Arrests were made statewide, including Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Greece, Geneseo, Henrietta and Irondequoit.

DMV Commissioner Mark Schroeder says those arrested used fake documents to bypass required driver knowledge and road tests. In most cases, investigators say they used their actual identities on the fake IDs and licenses.
