The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating what it calls a “disturbing video” circulated on social media by a student at Pittsford Sutherland High School. The MCSO says they investigated it as a potential threat, as it appeared to show firearms.
Deputies interviewed the student’s family, which is cooperating with the investigation. They believe the video is several months old, and they also determined that the weapon is an air-soft gun and not a threat.
The Sheriff’s Office says out of due diligence it will continue to interview additional students, but at this time it believes there is no credible threat to the safety of others. The MCSO has shared its findings with Pittsford Central School District officials, and the district is working on corrective action with the student who posted the video and anyone else involved.
A deputy will be stationed at the school over the next several days just in case.
