Governor Cuomo’s office says State Police and local law enforcement are beginning a statewide campaign against distracted driving, looking especially for anyone texting from the driver’s seat.

“Operation Hang Up” is part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April. Through Monday, police will be using both marked and unmarked cars, cruising in traffic and looking for people using handheld electronic devices while driving.

Nearly 3,500 people were killed in distracted driving crashes last year nationwide.
