New York’s Medicaid System made about $6.8 million in payments last year that shouldn’t have been made, according to an audit by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. About a third of that money has been recovered.
The Comptroller says that includes $3.5 million for medical services that should have been covered under managed care plans, but were billed separately anyway. That meant they were double paid.
DiNapoli says New York’s Medicaid System is complex and leaves plenty of opportunity for waste and abuse.
