The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says a 19-year-old Walworth man has been charged with two counts of assault and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon after a fight with a Wayne County Deputy on Monday.

The deputy was acting as a school resource officer at the Wayne Central Middle School when he responded to a fight between Thomas Franco and a school employee. Franco was armed with a knife. Franco at some point got his hands on a .45 caliber pistol which he used to shoot the deputy in the foot. Both the deputy and Franco were injured. He’s being held on $2,500 bail after being treated and released from the hospital. The deputy was also treated and released.

The Thomas C. Armstrong Middle School was placed on lockdown because of the incident. No students were injured.
