A sergeant in the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has been treated after a fleeing car slammed into his patrol car.
The crash happened about 11:00 Wednesday night as deputies responded to reports of a possible break-in at an apartment complex in Henrietta. Deputies spotted several suspects and gave chase when they attempted to drive off in two cars. One of those cars hit the sergeant’s patrol car head-on.
The 20-year-old driver, identified as Candice Smith, ran from the scene but was soon taken into custody after a K9 search.
The second vehicle was stopped down the road. Both the 24-year-old passenger and 17-year-old driver were arrested and charges are pending against them. Charges are also pending against a 15-year-old passenger in Smith’s car.
The sergeant was treated and released from Rochester General Hospital.
