Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty says a truck driver who led police on a chase in a tractor-trailer while shooting at them was shot and killed Wednesday night in Geneseo.
The sheriff says the incident started in LeRoy when an officer tried to stop the driver for speeding on West Main Street. LeRoy police say the driver refused to follow directions and began driving off while their officer was still on the truck.
The driver then went down Route 5 to Batavia, then entered Route 19 into Pavilion. He then took Route 63 to Geneseo and 20A onto I-390 South. The driver allegedly tried to ram oncoming vehicles and fired shots at officers during the chase.
The driver looped his truck around onto 390 north, then back onto 20A. The chase ended at a plaza in Geneseo where officers fired multiple shots at the driver. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No ID has yet been released on the driver and there’s no explanation for his actions.
