A Rochester man has been charged with numerous crimes in Livingston County after twice running away from officers trying to arrest him. The first time he got away. The second time he didn’t.

Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty says 44-year-old Randy Smith was tracked to Wellsville after fleeing from one of his deputies in a stolen pickup truck. The deputy suspected Smith of drug activity, but the Smith sped away after being pulled over, abandoned the truck and fled on foot. Deputies found the truck was stolen from Avon. They also got a burglary complaint from a home in Nunda where a purse and a phone were stolen. They learned someone matching Smith’s description had used credit cards from the stolen purse in Wellsville, and calls had been made there from the stolen cellphone.

Deputies, Wellsville Police and State Police located an associate of Smith’s who lived in the village and staked out his house. They confronted Smith when he showed up and chased him down when he ran.

Smith has  been charged with violating parole, obstructing governmental administration, burglary, grand larceny and other offenses. More charges are pending.
