Monroe County Deputies chased…but didn’t catch…a jewelry thief Saturday. They’re searching for a suspect who drove a black Mercedes and stole several sets of diamond earrings from The Source on Monroe Avenue.
A Sheriff’s Office spokesman says deputies were called to the store shortly before noon Saturday, and were approached by a citizen as they arrived who pointed out the suspect . The suspect, who was wearing blue sweatpants, and orange sweatshirt and a white hat, jumped into the Mercedes as deputies ran after him and drove off eastbound on Monroe Avenue.
Minutes later, a sergeant spotted the Mercedes at Pinnacle and Calkins Roads in Henrietta and gave chase, but abandoned the chase because of the snowstorm.
The suspect had asked a clerk to see several sets of earrings, then grabbed them and ran when she set them down.
