Free the People ROC continued protest marches through the weekend against the death of Daniel Prude after he suffocated in police custody.

The group rallied in Genesee Valley Park on Sunday and marched to the Universty of Rochester Medical Center, where Prude was seen but released on the night of his encounter with police. He suffered a psychotic episode apparently fueled by drugs and fled his brother’s house, to be found by police wandering naked on Jefferson Avenue. He suffocated while they held him on the pavement, and died a week later without regaining consciousness.

The demonstrators blame the URMC for not doing more in Prude’s case, and called the hospital a “racist institution” that must be held accountable for Prude’s murder.

The URMC issued a statement saying it support’s everyone’s right to freedom of expression and peaceful protests.
