Demonstrators marched for a 12th straight night through Rochester on Sunday, this time gathering outside Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley’s downtown office and demanding that she resign.

The protesters painted “Resign” in red letters on the street. Police and State Troopers watched but did not intervene.

Doorley released a statement saying she was re-elected last year by a majority of Monroe County residents and has no intention of resigning. She said she will promote justice and public safety.

On Saturday night, three people were arrested on charges including disorderly conduct and rioting after demonstrators marched from Jefferson Avenue to Child Street. The demonstration was peaceful until police blocked the marchers’ path at Child and Wilder Streets, denying them access to the bridge across I-490 and declared an illegal demonstration.

Police said in a statement that agitators tried to push past the church elders that were acting as a buffer between police and protesters. They say they were then pelted with rocks, bottles and eggs, and responded by firing pepper balls at the crowd. Both sides faced off for more than two hours before the crowd dispersed.
