Shortly after Democrat Jackie Ortiz was sworn in as Monroe County Elections Commissioner on Thursday, County Legislator Minority Leader Vince Felder and four other Democrats condemned her appointment, while a case they brought against the appointment process is still in court.
Felder slammed Judge John Ark for not ruling on the motions he and four other Democratic legislators brought against the process backed by the majority of Democrats who appointed Ortiz. They say the five most minority-representative districts in the city which elected them were denied a say in the appointment process, which they sought to block.
Felder and the other four city lawmakers backed Lashana Boose, a Democrat favored by Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren but not by the party leadership. They’re back in court with their case Thursday, although it may now be moot.
