Canandaigua Police confirm they’re investigating the death of a 22-year-old visitor to the Roseland Wake Park. They say the victim was a Massachusetts man who was found unresponsive in the water on the afternoon of September 22nd, and died two days later at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. They identify him as Valentine Hollingsworth.
At Roseland, customers ride wakeboards while being pulled on a tether. They say Hollingsworth had the required helmet and life vest when a friend spotted him unconscious in the water. He was taken to shore and park staff immediately began lifesaving measures while calling 911. Emergency Medical took over and Hollingsworth was taken to Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, then airlifted to Strong.
Police and the Monroe County Medical Examiner are working to determine his cause of death. They say there’s no evidence of criminal misconduct so far. The park remains open and has fully cooperated with the investigation.
