City Hall’s deadline to come up with proposals for the last vacant parcel of the former Midtown Plaza site is Friday, and Rochester’s Wilmorite Corporation says it won’t be submitting one.
Wilmorite has issued a statement saying it’s decided not to bother, because the city appears to have already made up its mind what it wants to see developed on “Parcel 5.” City Hall has issued its own statement, saying it is open to any and all proposals for the parcel.
Meanwhile, a group of designers called the “Rochester Visionary Square Corporation” has showed off a plan to turn the lot into a landscaped green space with shopping kiosks that businesses could rent for a couple of hundred dollars a month. They say it will encourage walking downtown and generate tax revenues for the city.
In addition to the green proposal, the Rochester Broadway Theater League is expected to submit concepts for a downtown performing arts center…and the Seneca Nation of Indians has already proposed a combined casino and theater complex.
