Governor Cuomo came to downtown Rochester today, confirming reports that a high-tech firm founded by a Rochester Institute of Technology graduate is expanding its operation in the city.
Datto, Incorporated is based in Connecticut, and it provides computer data backup and disaster recovery services for its customers. The company is leasing space on three floors of the Metropolitan Building, formerly the Chase Tower on North Clinton Avenue. It creating 200 new jobs and will get a capital assist of just over $2 million from the state. It has the option on two more floors if it keeps growing at the same rate.
The company was one of the first to use the Start Up NY Plan and run tax-free for 10 years. It’s outgrown its offices on Franklin Street and began leasing space in the Metropolitan in June.
The governor also talked about other parts of his 2017 legislative program as he did yesterday in the North Country and in Syracuse. Those include free SUNY tuition for middle class college students and his $10 million Photonics Venture Challenge.
