The man police say set a fatal fire on Hertel Street in Rochester has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and arson.
Lawrence Dash was in court this morning after being indicted yesterday in the death of Champagne Singleton last month. The 62-year-old man is accused of setting the house on fire after a fight with his girlfriend about an hour before the fire broke out.
The girlfriend and five other adults and children escaped, some by jumping out windows. Singleton was overcome by smoke as she ran upstairs looking for her children.
