The historic “bear” fountain in Geneseo has been damaged again.
According to the “Genesee Sun,” a pickup truck crashed into the fountain on Main Street in the village and then went through the front of the Village Cafe. It hit the south side of the granite fountain basin, which was already damaged when it was knocked off its base in April by an errant tractor trailer.
That first accident knocked the bronze bear off his pillar atop the fountain. The village has hired a restoration company to repair the damage and restore the monument, which dates from 1888.
Geneseo Police say the driver this time is a man in his 50s who ended up with his truck halfway through the restaurant’s front door.
