Officials of a state recovery team sent into the Finger Lakes to help clean up from Tuesday’s flooding says they’ll be bringing in heavy equipment to fish debris out of Seneca Lake and from along its shores after the unprecedented rains.

State Operations Director Cathy Calhoun says the residents of the Town of Lodi and Lodi Point in particular were hit hard and fast by up to nine inches of rain that fell Tuesday. A wall of water and debris came down the hills lining Seneca Lake, taking everything in their path and pushing it into the lake. That includes parts of cottages, cars, propane tanks, backyard grills, trees and furniture washed out of homes.

People began getting back into the most heavily affected areas Wednesday, escorted in by the National Guard.

The state has hundreds of emergency workers in the affected areas. A mobile command center has been set up at the Lodi Fire Hall. It will be there through Saturday and is set up to answer people’s questions about insurance and possible recovery funds.
