Rochester School Superintendent Terry Dade says city school employees who face layoffs will find out on December 4th. He made that announcement Tuesday night as he laid out his timeline for the school board to close a $30 million overspending problem left by the district’s previous leadership.
Dade plans nearly 170 job cuts and told reporters in a Wednesday morning news conference that the district’s deficit would be close to $65 million by the end of this school year if nothing changes. He also said he plans to lobby the state for an additional $20 million in school aid to help close the gap.
The state is facing its own budget shortfall next year, and may not look at Dade’s request favorably.
