Monroe County reported 338 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, as numbers continue high for the past week. Governor Andrew Cuomo said that at this rate, parts of Rochester will go into a orange zone and face new lockdown restrictions in an effort to stamp out the virus.
In micro-clusters, tougher COVID-19 safety regulations are imposed to help control spikes in the virus in specific areas. If an area goes above a three percent infection rate for 10 days and has 10 or more new cases daily per 100,000 residents, the orange alert is triggered.
Cuomo says if this current infection rate doesn’t flatten, some parts of the Rochester area will hit those levels this coming week. That would force all schools to close and return to remote learning in the affected areas. Gyms, hair salons and other personal care businesses would have to close.
