There were 224 new coronavirus cases reported in Monroe County on Wednesday, as Governor Cuomo tightened down virus restrictions on Western New York and the Buffalo area.
Cuomo said parts of Erie County are at above a five percent positive testing rate for COVID-19. He moved parts of the area to orange level, and warned New York City was also at risk of sliding back into orange.
The governor questioned whether Western New Yorkers were as fearful of the virus as downstate residents.
The FInger Lakes, including Rochester, remain at yellow level, with a 4.3 percent positive testing average.
Governor Cuomo said the next issue with COVID is going to be Thanksgiving. He predicted a tremendous spike in cases because of people getting together over Thanksgiving dinner. Cuomo also criticized sheriff’s who have said they won’t enforce the 10-person-per-gathering limit called for by the state.
Cuomo said “nobody’s saying knock on doors, count heads,” but he says a deputy who sees signs of such a gathering should stop it.
