Governor Cuomo wants the last of New York’s coal-fired power plants to convert to cleaner fuels or shut down by the year 2020.
Cuomo’s office says the governor has ordered the Department of Environmental Conservation to issue new power plant rules requiring tougher emission limits for carbon dioxide…limits coal-fired plants can’t meet.
Most plants would presumably convert to cleaner natural gas, as many already have, or to renewables such as wind or solar power.
