Governor Cuomo says Western New York’s economy is running again, and approving his Excelsior College Scholarship program will help keep it that way.
Speaking at Buffalo State College, the governor said this economy is about what you know, and you can’t labor your way out of it. Cuomo says we can’t and shouldn’t compete with other manufacturing countries through low wages, because foreign countries will always undercut us there. He says advanced manufacturing is based on technology, and that has to be our advantage.
Cuomo says the reality is that an undergraduate degree is now the minimum requirement for a decent-paying job. He says his plan to offer free college tuition to low and middle class New Yorkers who attend SUNY schools and community colleges is the way forward. Cuomo says it’s no longer possible to do it on your own.
