Governor Andrew Cuomo has formally requested the federal government to declare the Lake Ontario shoreline a disaster area for home and business owners affected by the spring flooding.
The governor’s office released a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency dated July 6th, but not made public until over the weekend. It calls for an “expedited major disaster declaration” from FEMA and certifies that the damages suffered by home and business owners plus local governments will exceed the limits set for a disaster declaration.
The governor says state and local resources are overwhelmed and help is needed to fund the recovery.
