Governor Cuomo says he will advance legislation adding rioting and inciting to riot to New York State’s list of hate crimes.

The governor wants to criminalize inciting to riot against people for reasons of race, creed, sexual orientation or national origin. He’s calling them the Charlottesville Provisions and says they will reaffirm that peaceful demonstrations are allowed, but New york will never tolerate advocacy or incitement of imminent violence against what he calls “protected classes within our communities.”

Cuomo says this legislation will help protect New Yorkers and send a clear signal that violence and discrimination have no place here.
