Governor Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday mandated that all New Yorkers wear face protection when they are out in public and in a situation where they can’t stay at least six feet away from other people.
The governor said his executive order will take effect Friday, requiring masks on busy street corners, in buses and grocery stores among other places where social distancing is hard.
Cuomo said there could be potential civil, but not criminal, penalties for violating the order. Enforcement would be handled by local officials.
