After announcing Friday that the Assembly impeachment probe into Governor Andrew Cuomo was off, it’s back on again. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Judiciary Committee Chair Charles Lavine said Monday that the committee is reviewing evidence and will issue a final report.
Their joint statement says the committee will make sure this does not interfere with any criminal investigation by the U.S. Attorney concerning nursing home data, the Attorney General concerning the governor’s memoir, or the District Attorneys in five jurisdictions from Manhattan to Oswego who are investigating Governor Cuomo.
Friday Heasitie said the constitution doesn’t allow for impeachment of an elected official who has already resigned, triggering pushback from both Republicans and Democrats.
