A six-to-one lead in New York City overcomes a shortfall upstate for Governor Andrew Cuomo, putting him ahead of Republican Marc Molinaro by 58-35 percent among likely voters in a Quinnipiac University Poll.
Only five percent of New York voters are undecided, but 13 percent of those who named a candidate say they could change their minds by election day.
Democrat Cuomo leads by 77-to-13 percent in New York City. Upstate voters go for Molinaro by 52-41 percent.
Polling analyst Mary Snow says Molinaro is hampered by lack of name recognition statewide and he’s running in a state where President Trump has a 37 percent job approval rating.
The poll finds Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand leading Republican Chele Farley by 58-to-33 percent, with many voters surprised to learn there’s a U.S. Senate race in New York.
