Governor Cuomo has responded to President Trump’s pullout from the Paris Climate Accord by committing New York State to follow the agreement, and by launching a multi-state United States Climate Alliance together with California and Washington State.
The Paris agreement laid out a framework for countries to phase out use of fossil fuels and adopt clean energy sources in their place, cutting down on carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Governor Cuomo has
signed an executive order saying New York State will continue to follow those principles, and will work with the other states to reduce carbon emissions from all sectors of the economy.
The state will also invest up to $1.5 billion in major renewable energy projects including wind and solar, creating an additional 2.5 million megawatt-hours of electricity a year. That’s the biggest state investment in clean energy in history.
